Dawn, I know it hurts pretty bad right now. Moments of numbness alternate with moments of sheer emptiness and pain. It’s hard and you wonder how you can ever get through the grief and live a normal life again.
Take it a day at a time. Get through this time with your family as the funeral is planned. And when you go home, make sure you don’t bottle it up. Make sure you talk your way through the grief with someone. Take it a day at a time. I can’t tell you the grief will ever go away…but it gets better so that you don’t face it every moment of every day. Talking (and journaling) will help you to focus on the good times and not just the loss and whatever bad times you may or may not have had to regret. I know for me this was one of the hardest parts to deal with when I lost my dad–regret–if this is an issue for you, please work on letting it go.
Just take care of yourself and know you aren’t alone.
